‘Kings of BBL History’ – Fans stunned as Perth Scorchers beat Brisbane Heat in a tense chase to clinch their 5th title

The Big Bash League Final of the 12th edition took place on February 4 between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat. Brisbane Heat won the toss and chose to bat. The Heat got off to a decent start as Josh Brown made 25 off 12 balls with four fours and one six. He was caught by Andrew Tye of David Payne.
The second wicket to fall was Sam Heazlett who made 34 off 30 balls with two fours and one six. He was caught by Payne of Jason Behrendoff. McSweeney made 41 off 37 balls with three fours and one six. He was caught by Cameron Bancroft off Aaron Hardie. In the end, The Heat got to 175-7 in their 20 overs.
Ashton Turner made 50 off 32 balls for the Scorchers in the run chase
They got to the total largely due to Max Bryant who made 31 off 14 balls with two fours and three sixes and Sam Hain who made an unbeaten 21 off 16 balls with two fours. The best bowlers for the Scorchers were Behrendoff who picked up 2-26 in his four overs and Mathew Kelly who picked up 2-37 in his four overs.
In the second innings, it was not the best of starts as Stevie Eskinazi went after scoring 21 off 19 balls in a rather tame fashion. Then they lost the wickets of Cameron Bancroft and Aaron Hardie and were tottering at 54-3. Then the rebuilding act began for Scorchers in the form of Josh Inglis who made 26 off 22 balls with three fours. The Scorchers skipper Ashton Turner made 53 off 32 balls with five fours and two sixes to get the Scorchers back on track.. When Inglis and Turner fell at 134-4 and 138-5 respectively, the balance was tilted slightly in favour of the Heat.
But cameos from Cooper Connolly who made 25 off 11 balls with one four and two sixes and Nick Hobson who made 18 off 7 balls with one four and one six. He also hit 10 runs off the 20th over against Michael Neser which included a six and a four to help Scorchers lift their fifth BBL title. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter-
Brilliant win boys, looked done after the Turner run out but showed why they’re been the best team all year.
Behrendorf doesn’t get much credit. But geez he’s a very smart bowler who can take the big wickets in the early overs or turn the match like he did in the surge tonight.
What a chase. PS played like a true champion. Turner lead from the front and played captains knock. Both teams played well and the last over hitting was amazing. True fan of PS and Turner should be playing WC for Australia.
