In the last Super 4s stage match of the Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh defeated India by 6 runs and ended the tournament on a high. Playing without some of the key players like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav, India found it difficult to face the Bangladeshi side, which played like they had nothing to lose.

Batting first, Bangladesh found themselves in trouble. At one stage, Bangladesh was reduced to 59/4. From there, Bangladesh went on to score 265 runs on the board. Shakib Al Hasan scored 80 runs in 85 balls. Towhid Hridoy scored 54 runs in 81 balls. Nasum Ahmed played an impactful knock off the order and scored 44 runs in 45 balls.

The tail-wagging from Bangladesh was not stopped by the Indian bowlers, which cost them the match eventually. From 161/6 at one stage, Bangladesh scored 265 runs in their 50 overs. Shami and Shardul were good with the new ball. But in the death overs, no bowler could stop the flow of runs. It meant that India had to chase a bigger total than they would have liked.

Shubman Gill and Axar Patel’s knocks go in vain

Chasing 266, India lost their captain Rohit Sharma in the first over. Tanzim Hasan Sakib was brilliant with the ball for Bangladesh, who picked 2/32 in 7.5 overs. The 20-year-old got the wicket of Rohit and the debutant Tilak Varma. Wickets fell at regular intervals for the Indian team. The likes of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan could not do anything much in the run chase. The responsibility of the run chase fell on the shoulders of Shubman Gill.

The youngster tried his best to keep India alive in the game. The 24-year-old scored 121 runs in 133 balls which included 8 fours and 5 sixes. Nut there was not enough support from the other end, which led to the downfall of both Gill and India. Towards the end, Axar Patel tried his best to win the match for India. But on a slow wicket, it seemed a tough ask. India lost the match by 6 runs, as Bangladesh ended the tournament with a win.
