Usman Khawaja took charge for Australia at Ahmedabad with his heroics with the bat. The left-handed batter scored a magnificent 14th Test Hundred, and Khawaja was unbeaten on 180 at lunch. At the start of the Tea session, he was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. He made 180 off 422 balls with 21 fours. In conditions that looked like the best to bat on in all of the four Tests and on a pitch that was well rolled, Australia made merry.

Khawaja ended Day 1 at 104. The Southpaw batted out an entire day’s play in India against India since 2013. He joined the Sri Lankan Dimuth Karunaratne at this special landmark. On Day 1 Khawaja added 61 for the opening stand with Travis Head who scored 32.

On Day 2, Khawaja put on a 208-run alliance with Cameron Green as the partnership was the second-highest partnership for Australia against India in India. This was also the first 200-run partnership in India against India since 2013. The 36-year-old has been in good form in Tests for the Kangaroos.

Cameron Green scored his maiden Test Hundred against India at Ahmedabad

Cameron Green also batted very well and scored his maiden Test hundred. He played a superb innings to get a century. This was his first and it was scored in overseas conditions. Innings like this will do his confidence a world of good. Australia have batted themselves into a very good position in this Test match.

Conditions at Ahmedabad were the best for the batters, in contrast to the spin-friendly conditions that were on offer in all three Test matches at Nagpur, Delhi and Indore. The Kangaroos made the most when the flip of the coin went their way and they never looked back from there.

Australia showed their fighting spirit by winning the previous Test at Indore after India recorded wins at Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs at Delhi by six wickets. Even in Indore Australia batted better in hard conditions and showed a much better temperament than India.

Khawaja received a medal at the Allan Borderโ€™s medal night for being the most consistent batter in Test cricket in 2022 for Australia. He has scored 4495 runs in 60 Tests matches at an average of 48.53 and a strike rate of 50.50. He has scored 21 fifties and 14 hundreds.
