Rohit Sharma has been in good form so far in the Test series against Australia. He scored 120 off 212 balls at Nagpur on a tough track against the Kangaroos where he scored 15 fours and two sixes in that knock. He also scored 32 off 69 balls with two fours and 31 off 20 balls with three fours and two sixes.

However, one more thing that has been making headlines about Rohit has been his weight. Kapil Dev talked about the same when he was asked a question relating to the Indian skipper’s fitness on ABP News. Rohit took over from Virat Kohli for captaincy after 2021 20-20 World Cup which was held in the United Arab Emirates.

Is he fit enough? – Kapil Dev on Rohit Sharma

“It is very important to be fit. More so for a captain. It’s a shame if you are not fit. “He is a great batsman but when you talk about his fitness, he looks a bit overweight, at least on TV. Yes, it’s different when you look at someone on TV and then in real life. But from whatever I see, Rohit is a great player and a great captain, but he needs to get fit. Look at Virat, whenever you see him, you say, ‘that’s some fitness!’, Kapil further added.

Kapil, in an earlier interview, said that there are no question marks for Rohit when it comes to batting but the same cannot be said about his fitness.

“There’s no shortcoming in Rohit Sharma. He has everything but I personally think, there is a huge question mark over his fitness. Is he fit enough? Because a captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter, the teammates should feel proud of their captain,”

Rohit’s fitness has been under the scanner as he has not led the Indian side at all times during 2022 and there have been phases where there were constant changes in leadership because the 35-year-old was either rested or injured. India will be hoping he will be in full fitness this year considering it is an ODI World Cup year.
