On Wednesday, India lock horns with Australia in the Third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Holkar Stadium in Indore. India Skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. However, both teams made a few changes in the playing XI. India dropped KL Rahul after a series of poor performances while resting Mohammed Shami for workload management. on the other hand, Mitchell Starc and Camron Green come back for Steve Smith-led Australia.
KL Rahul has been India’s weakest asset in recent times. He has been consistently inconsistent with bat and has failed to capitalize on various opportunities throughout the series. On the other hand, Shubman Gill who has been in red-hot form in limited-over series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka has replaced Rahul.

Earlier, Rahul has been on the receiving end of criticism for his poor performance. Various former players like Venkatesh Prasad and Ravi Shastri have questioned his place in the team.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri has said that Gill has performed and deserves a chance. During a recent interview Shastri said, “The team management knows his (Rahul’s) form, they know his mental state. They know how they should be watching someone like Gill.”
“If the vice-captain doesn’t perform, someone can take his place; at least the tag is not there. I’m being blunt and brutal, I never like vice-captain in home conditions.” Meanwhile, fans react to the decision of Team management to drop KL Rahul in the Third Test. A Twitter user said, “Aakhir wo din aa hi gaya”.
