Trinbago Knight Riders were not too happy after their side became the first side in the Caribbean Premier League ( CPL) to receive a red card in cricket. Sunil Narine has to leave the field after he finished the over of his quota of four overs. This red card rule is the new provision added in the CPL 2023 as due to the slow-over rate, TKR has to force out one player from the field, and they were fielded with only 10 players in the last over.

At the start of the play, Pollard won the toss and opted to field first, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots batted first, and opener Andre Fletcher got his team off to a flying start as Sherfane Rutherford smashed 62 of 38 balls to help his side post a challenging total of 178/5 in 20 overs. But in the final over of the first innings, the umpire called Pollar and took out the red car. It was an indication that Red Card has now made his debut in the league, it was the penalty for maintaining a slow over rate as the Riders were forced to field with 10 players, so the skipper asked Narine to go out.

Here is the viral video of Kieron Pollard-led side getting a red card in CPL 2023-

“To be honest, it will take away the hard work everyone has done. We are like the pawns and we are going to do what we are told. We are going to play as fast as we can. If you are penalised for 30-45 seconds in a tournament like this, it is absolutely ridiculous,” Pollard said on the broadcast as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

However, when Narine went out of the field he bowled his full quota of figures and registered with the figure of 3/24, while the last over was gone for 18 runs as Dwayne Bravo got smashed. While in the chase Riders chased down the target with 18 balls remaining with six wickets in hand, Nicholas Pooran was the highest scorer as smashed 61 in 32 balls with four sixes. Skipper Pollard won the game for his side by hitting a six and remained not out on 37 (16) along with five mammoth sixes.
