With the ODI World Cup 2023 nearing its start, the fans, former cricketers, experts, and admirers of the game have started to give their opinions about the tournament. The cricket fraternity is giving predictions for the tournament by picking the winners, runners-ups, and semifinalists of the tournament. Fans and experts are also predicting the best individual performers in the tournament.
The International Cricket Board has taken the opinions of some of the former cricketers regarding the performers of the tournament. The former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was asked to give his prediction on the leading run scorer in the tournament. The former Indian opener who won the ODI World Cup in 2011 said that the opening batters would have better chances of being the leading run scorers in the tournament.

“I think lots of openers because India has good wickets. So, openers will get more opportunities,” said Sehwag and backed the openers to get more runs. Further, Sehwag picked his favorite to be the leading run-scorer in the tournament. The former Indian opener picked the Indian captain Rohit Sharma as the leading run-scorer of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“If I want to pick one, it will be Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names. But I am an Indian and I should pick an Indian player. I will pick Rohit Sharma.” said Sehwag. The former Indian cricketer had represented India in three ODI World Cups from 2003 to 2011. In that period, India won the title in 2011 and made it to the finals in 2003.
Sehwag further continued and said Rohit’s performance would be better given the added responsibilities of being the captain of the side. “Because, when World Cups come, his energy levels and performances go up. I am sure about that. This time around, he is the captain of the side as well. So, I am sure that he will make the difference and score a lot of runs” the former aggressive batter concluded.
