S Sreesanth, who has won two World Cups for the country, i.e., a 20-20 World Cup in 2007 and a 50 over World Cup in 2011, has said that if he would have played under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, then the Men in Blue would have won at least 3 world cups.
Under Virat Kohli’s leadership, the men in Blue did very well in bilateral tours and achieved tremendous success in the home and away series. But they have failed to cross the finishing line at the Champions Trophy in 2017, World Cup in 2019, and also in the Test Championship in 2021.
“If I would have been a part of the team under Virat’s captaincy, India would have won the World Cup in 2015, 2019 & 2021,” said Sreesanth in a Share Chat Audio Chatroom on Tuesday.
Sreesanth recalled the incident of standing with Sachin Tendulkar while carrying the 2011 World Cup and how Tendulkar became emotional about those victories and his dreams of seeing India win the trophy.
“We won that World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar.”
Sreesanth was a very different personality himself. He had the aggressive attitude of a fast bowler. The facial expressions of Sreesanth added more theatre and drama to him. He also bowled fast and possessed all the attributes needed to get batsmen out. His rough and tough nature also allowed him to get under the skin of a batter and ruffle the batter down. The dual between Sreesanth and any batsman he was bowling to was always a treat to watch.
He would have gone on to have a more accomplished career had he been more consistent.
Sreesanth explained how he mastered the trick. He said: “It is important to visualize while playing and small regions do not make any difference. Rather it is better to learn such tricks here, given there are a few distractions. My coach taught me how to throw Yorkers with tennis balls”, said Sreesanth, who ended up with 87 wickets from 27 Tests.
He even suggested that practice can make one perfect and to never think anything is difficult.
“If you ask Bumrah, he’ll say that it is easy too.” said the Indian fast bowler.
