Shubman Gill, a young Indian batter, has struggled for runs in the game’s longest format. His most recent huge innings came against Australia in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test last year, when he hit 128. Since then, he has scored 173 runs in ten innings, with his top score of 36 coming against South Africa in Cape Town earlier this month.

His most recent performance, in the present Hyderabad Test against England, was also not very outstanding. He had a 43-run partnership for the second wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal but could only add 23 off 66 before losing his wicket to debutant Tom Hartley.

On day 4 of the first Test match England vice-captain Ollie Pope’s performance against India in Hyderabad was a top notch. Pope scored 196 runs to help England get 420 in the second innings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium as England set India a 231-run mark in the opening Test of the five-match series.

India struggling on Day 4

Unlike in the first innings, Indian openers took a cautious approach in the second session. Rohit Sharma, who was dropped early, showed more desire than Yashasvi Jaiswal but was caught off guard by Tom Hartley’s excellent bowling.

Coming to bat at No. 3 position Shubman Gill went got without opening his account. Gill attempts a defensive shot, and Ollie Pope takes a fantastic catch. Then Axar Patel and KL Rahul steadied the ship Hartley, who was struggling in the first innings, wowed with his precise lines and debuting trick. Jacked Leach bowled well despite his injury, but Hartley is England’s bowling hero this session.

Joe Root has claimed his first wicket of the day. He takes big wicket of KL Rahul as he scored 22 runs. Root ball hits Rahul in the pads, and the on-field umpire signals LBW out. Rahul requests a DRS review, but the verdict is in favour of England.

India is presently lost five wickets, with Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. The duo want to get India back on track in the pursuit of 231 against England.

With total four sessions remaining, India still requires 112 runs to win, while England wants the remaining 3 wickets for a dramatic triumph.
