‘Is wicket mein run ke bochaad hai’ – India end their first innings on 571 on Day 4, sets up for thrilling final day

India continued its good work on Day 4 of the Test match against Australia. Kohli made a beautifully paced half-century and was unbeaten at the close of play on Day 3.  Kohli converted it into a wonderful century which was his 28th hundred in Tests after a gap of 1205 days. The Delhi-batter had last hit a Test ton in 2019 in November.

It was a different innings from Kohli. When he got to the landmark, there was a sense of relief of his face, and he had a very muted celebration. The fans from India went into ruptures. India also got vital contributions from KS Bharat who made a cracking 44 off 88 balls with two fours and three sixes.  When Bharat was dismissed with the score on 393-5, Kohli found an able ally in Axar Patel.

The left-handed batter gritted his teeth and scored 79 off 113 balls with five fours and four sixes. While Kohli held the innings together, Axar gave some much needed firepower with his big hitting. Kohli was finally dismissed for 186 off 364 balls with 15 fours. it was an unlikely Kohli innings, but, it was the need of the hour.

On Day 3, The Indian reply was led by Shubman Gill who scored a stellar 128 off 235 balls. Gill hit 12 fours and one six in his innings. Rohit Sharma made 35 off 58 balls with three fours and one six. Pujara played himself in and made a watchful 42 off 121 balls with three fours. India gave a good account of themselves with the bat in this Test.

At Ahmedabad the batters, made the most of batting friendly conditions. Australia also put up a great show with the bat as they scored 480 in their first innings. The Kangaroos were led by Usman Khawaja who made 180 off 422 balls and played a typical Test match innings in the sub-continent. Cameron Green put together a great knock of 114 off 170 balls with 18 fours. The Australian all-rounder had proven his worth with the bat.
