Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has sent cricket fans into a tizzy early on Thursday morning. The left-arm-pacer has confirmed his comeback to the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Starc has played two seasons in the cash-rich league with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mitchell Starc played the Indian Premier League seasons in 2014 and 2015 before international commitments kept him busy. Every year during the auctions there is speculation about the Australian star. Starc, for his part, has always kept his international commitments above money.

Mitchell Starc announces his comeback in 17th edition of IPL

The wait to see Mitchell Starc in the cash-rich Indian Premier League is set to end. Starc last played in 2015 and has announced his intentions to play the 2024 season. The 33-year-old was recently part of the Willow Talk Cricket Podcast.

During the podcast, Starc said, “Look it’s been eight years. I’m definitely going back in next year. Amongst other things, it’s a great lead-up to the T20 World Cup”. Mitchell Starc last played an international against Ireland during the 2022 T20 World Cup at Brisbane.

The left-arm-pacer further when quizzed about his IPL aspirations on the Willow Talk Cricket Podcast said “So a good opportunity to see if anyone’s interested in the IPL. Then lead into the T20 World Cup. And its somewhat of a quiet winter next year.. in comparison to this winter, so I think it is a perfect opportunity to put my name in”

Mitchell Starc is currently recovering from a fitness issue and is expected to be fit for the three-match ODI series against India. Starc will be one of the players to watch out for during the ODI Cricket World Cup which starts in a few weeks. The left-arm pacer will be aiming to win Australia its 6th title and add a 2nd World Title to his name.

Starc has played 27 games in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore and has picked 34 wickets. His best figures of 4/15 came against Punjab Kings at home in 2015. Starc has an overall bowling average of 20 in the IPL and bowls with an economy rate of 7.1 runs per over. The next IPL auction is set to be hosted in December and the fans cannot wait to see which team Mitchell Starc ends up with.
