IPL Auction 2024: Top 5 uncapped Indian players who could trigger a bidding war in upcoming auctions

2024 IPL Auction are set to take place of 19th December.

Indian Premier League popularly known as IPL is the second most valued sport in the world in terms of broadcast value. IPL has proved to be a revelation in the world of cricket and helped in commercializing the sport of cricket which was living in its niche till 2008.

IPL has married sports with entertainment and brought pace and money into the game. But despite all the glitz and glamour driving the IPL, its main purpose has been giving a platform to young players to showcase their talent to the whole world and make a name for themselves on a bigger stage.

‘Where talent meets opportunity’- has been the motto of the IPL since its inception and in its first years of existence, IPL has done pretty well and has given the Indian team some gems that have gone on to represent the country on to the international arena not only in T20Is but also in the longer versions of the game.

This year of the IPL will also be no different.  The mini-auction for IPL 2024 is set to take place in the Coca-Cola arena in Dubai on 19th December. In the upcoming IPL 2024 mini-auction, a total of 333 players are set to go under the hammer.

Of these, 214 are Indian players, and 119 hail from overseas, including two from associate nations. The auction pool comprises 116 capped players, 215 uncapped players, and 2 from associate nations. With a maximum of 77 slots available, including up to 30 for overseas players, the auction promises intense bidding wars and strategic acquisitions.

Here are some of the uncapped Indian players who can go for big money in the upcoming auctions:

  • Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh has quietly amassed 426 runs in 33 IPL matches at a strike rate of 134 and can turn the match on its head in the latter stages of the match which is a scarce skill in the IPL. This late-overs maestro, hailed by none other than Ashwin himself, promises a bidding war like no other.

Franchises desperate for finishing firepower will square off, ready to break the bank for the man who could turn the tides in the final overs. Notably, he was secured by the Punjab Kings for INR 5.25 crore during the 2021 auction.

  • Ramandeep Singh

With franchises hungry for late-overs finishers it’s not easy to find one especially an Indian batter who could finish matches consistently. But Ramandeep Singh is someone on whom the franchises will keep an eye on. He was brought by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 20 lakhs.

Throughout the season, he showcased his skills by taking six wickets, including an impressive three-wicket performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the opportunity to play in the 2023 season and has subsequently been released by the franchise.

However, there is anticipation that Ramandeep will attract significant attention in the 2024 IPL auctions. His proficiency as a finisher was evident in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare tournaments for Punjab, boasting a striking 222.80 in the SMAT and 157.42 in the 50-over tournament.

  • Urvil Patel

Urvil Patel’s impressive century, achieved in just 41 balls during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh, has significantly elevated his standing as the Indian Premier League 2024 auction approaches.

This remarkable feat stands as the second-fastest century by an Indian in List-A cricket. Urvil continued to shine by amassing a total of 311 runs across four matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Although a member of the Gujarat Titans in the previous season, he didn’t have the opportunity to play. Notably, Urvil brings an additional dimension to his skill set with his adept wicket-keeping abilities.

  • Kartik Tyagi

Kartik Tyagi, the emerging right-arm fast bowler, gained prominence through his standout performances at the U-19 World Cup in 2020, where he contributed significantly with 11 wickets, propelling India to the final.

With stints at both Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tyagi has showcased his ability to bowl at a rapid pace and induce movement in both directions. While control has been a challenge for the young bowler, his potential is evident in his capacity to generate speed and seam movement. He can also hit a long ball with the bat too.

  • Ravi Teja

Ravi Teja, the versatile all-rounder from Hyderabad, concluded as the leading wicket-taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023. Impressively, he secured 19 wickets at an average of 10.10 and an economy of 7.11.

In the Dhaka Premier League earlier in the same year, he exhibited his batting prowess by accumulating 508 runs from 11 innings. At 29 years old, Ravi Teja presents a valuable option for teams seeking a dependable pacemaker who can also contribute effectively with the bat when required.
