India’s triumph in the third Test match against England not only secured a significant victory but also propelled them to the second position in the World Test Championship cycle of 2023-25. Test match wins hold paramount importance in cricket due to their rarity and the intense battle they entail.
India’s achievement underscores their prowess in the sport, cementing their position among the elite contenders on the global stage. The Men in Blue defeated the three Lions by a huge margin. With that said, here is the list of the highest victory margins of India in Tests cricket.
In the third Test match between India and England in Rajkot. India won the Test match by 434 runs marking their biggest win by runs in Test cricket. Indian bowlers were all over England as they were bowled out on 122 runs. This defeat saw England’s second worst-lost in Test cricket. Earlier in India’s batting Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his second double century. Ravindra Jadeja took a five-wicket haul and marked his 13th overall in Test cricket.
In 2nd test match against New Zealand on Day 4 India took 5 wickets of New Zealand as India won the Test by 372 runs. Jayant Yadav took up 4 wickets and Ravichandran Ashwin got the final wicket as India won the match. New Zealand were wrapped for 167 runs in the second innings. This win was India’s second-biggest win by runs.
In the 4th Test match between India and South Africa in Delhi India came come with a win over South Africa by 337 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin played an important role in leading India to win the Test series by 3-0 against South Africa.
In the third and the last Test between India and New Zealand. India won the Test match by 321 runs in Holkar Stadium, Indore. Ravichandran Ashwin proved his worth as he took 7 wickets and gave 59 runs. New Zealand were bowled out for 153 runs. India declared the first innings with 557 runs scored on the board. India won the Test match and completely whitewashed New Zealand by 3-0.
In Mohali India set a target of 516 runs for Australia to chase. As Australia looked to chase the target India’s pacer Zaheer Khan created havoc as Australia could be managed to score only 195 runs from just 18.4 overs. India won the Test match by 320 runs taking the lead by 1-0 in the four-match Test series. This Test match win was the biggest win over Australia suppressing their 222 runs win which came in 1997 in Melbourne.
