Team India took to the field on Saturday for the Third Test vs England in Rajkot wearing black armbands. The reason behind this is due to the demise of India’s oldest Test cricketer. Dattajirao Gaekwad passed away on the 13th of February at the age of 95 in Baroda.

The former Indian skipper had played 11 Test matches for India by scoring 350 runs with a best of 52. The former Indian player and coach Anshuman Gaekwad also played for the Indian team, following his father’s footsteps.

Ravichandran Ashwin is back home with his family due to a family emergency. India has taken to the field on the 3rd Day of the Test with just 10 players. Devdutt Padikkal is currently on the field as the substitute player.

Indian Cricket Board issues statement regarding Dattarao Gaekwad –

Many fans were worried once they spotted the Indian Cricket Team wearing black armbands. The Indian Cricket Board has put out a statement regarding the move. This is a gesture of respect for the deceased former India skipper Dattarao Gaekwad.

“TeamIndia will be wearing black armbands in memory of Dattajirao Gaekwad, former India captain and India’s oldest Test cricketer who passed away recently” the statement from the board read.

Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble has asked Ravichandran Ashwin to target 700 Test wickets. The 53-year-old is the highest wicket-taker for India with 619 Test wickets. On Friday, Ashwin reached the 500-wicket mark when he got the wicket of Zak Crawley.

The two megastars had a chat at the end of the day show in Jio Cinema. “Ash! Congratulations. I am very proud of you and your achievement. Go for 620, 625, 700. That should be your target. Don’t stop before that. Don’t think anywhere below that mark”

The Indian bowler for his part dedicated the feat to his father. “I would like to dedicate this to my father, he’s responsible for everything I’ve done in my life. He’s lived it through, had heart attacks every time I’ve played. I think his health has gone for a toss because he’s watched games of mine on TV and been a constant support for me.”
