India is a team gifted with a lot of talented cricket players. There is no dearth of talent in the Indian team in any format. A heavy concentration of talented players means that not every good cricket talent gets to play for the team. As a result, some of the players will be disappointed with the selectors for every series. It is unavoidable and uncontrollable.
Recently, India has been testing a lot of players in the limited-overs formats, as the big tournaments are fast approaching. In ODIs, India is trying out the potential options, who could be part of the ODI World Cup squad. Similarly, India is trying a lot of youngsters in T20Is to test the calibre of the players at the highest level. The list is big and is expected to get longer.
In T20Is, India has opted to play only youngsters with some experienced players in the lineup. Since November 2022, senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have not played a single T20I match for India. As the management wishes to test as many youngsters as possible, it seems like the comeback of seniors to the T20I side might not happen soon.
The comeback of seniors in T20Is?
India is currently preparing for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, and Virat Kohli are asked to concentrate on the tournament. It is a clear message from the management that youngsters would be tried in T20Is, and the seniors are expected to get ready for the upcoming big tournament.
After the 2023 ODI World Cup, the focus will shift towards the 2024 T20 World Cup. For the T20 World Cup, seniors will be necessary in the squad. Speaking about the same, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma said “In June 2024, there will be a World Cup happening in the West Indies and USA. I will look forward to that” and hinted about his comeback. The fans can expect the seniors to be back in the T20I side after the completion of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
