Ishan Kishan waltzed his name into the record books as he became the 4th Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rohit Sharma to score a double-century in ODI cricket on Saturday.

Kishan now also has the highest individual score in Bangladesh, surpassing Shane Watson. Kishan now holds the record for smashing the fastest double century, reaching the feat in just 126 balls. Chris Gayle, previously, held the record, smashing the century in 138 balls.

After reaching his double-ton, the southpaw said,

“The wicket was too good to bat on. My intent was very clear – if the ball is there, I’ll go for it. I’m blessed to hear my name amid such legends. Still feel when I got out – 15 overs were left. Could’ve scored 300 also.”

“Batting with Virat bhai, he has such good sense of the game. He was calming me down when I was in my 90s. I wanted to bring it up with a six, but he said to get it in singles as it’s your first. Had a chat with Surya bhai – he said when you bat before the game, you see the ball well. I didn’t take too much pressure on myself. Just wanted to make use of the opportunity.”

“He had a 290-run partnership with Virat Kohli for the second wicket and sent the Bangladesh bowlers on a leather hunt as they did not know what hit them. Every shot of Kishan’s bat went into a zone where there was no fielder. He just was in the mode to hit everything out of the park. Once he got in, he was on song.”

India ended up with a mammoth 409 and also breached the 400 barrier for the fifth time. India have lost the series to Bangladesh 2-0 in the ODIs but the ended the series on a winning note.
