‘Humari choriya choro se kam hai ke’ – Fans react as India Women team end day 1 of only Test at 410/7 against England

India Women end day 1 of one-off Test vs England Women at 410/7

After an intense battle between bat and bowl throughout day 1 of the first Test, Indian fans can finally put up a big smile. A combined batting effort propelled the Indian women’s team to a commanding position at the end of Day 1 in the ongoing one-off Test against England. As the day concluded, India’s total reached 410/7, with Deepti Sharma (60*) and Pooja Vastrakar (4*) standing unbeaten on the pitch.

Earlier, it was Harmanpreet Kaur who won the toss and opted to bat first in the one-off Test against England at DY Patil Sports Academy. In the four-day Test, England aims to break a Test losing streak since 2014, while India hosts their first home Test in nine years. For the India team Renuka Thakur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shubha Satheesh earned their Test debut caps ahead of the match.

The Indian team did not have the best of the starts as both the hist lost star opener Smriti Mandhana (17) in the sixth over of the game. Sooner, her opening partner Shafali Verma (19) also followed her partner back to the hut leaving India reeling at 47/2. But then on, there was a splendid partnership between Shubha Satheesh (69) and Jemimah Rodrigue (68). Both the batters complement each other well and never let the pressure get onto Indian batting. The duo stitched a brilliant partnership of 115 runs. But as soon as Shubha was dismissed Jemimah also followed in her footsteps.

Moreover, as so often in the Test, India again bounced back after being reeling for 190/4 at one stage. This time it was skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (49) and Yastika Bhatia (66) who scripted yet another fightback. Let us look at how Twitter has reacted to this terrific fighting effort from the Indian Women’s team;

Harmanpreet Kaur involved in yet another strange run-out

Despite all the fightback stories, one of the major highlights was the skipper’s run out. During the one-off Test against England, Harmanpreet Kaur, nearing a half-century, faced an unusual dismissal. Attempting a single, she was sent back by Dani Wyatt, but her bat got entangled at the crease’s edge, leading to her being just short.

The England team appealed, and the third umpire confirmed Kaur’s dismissal as she was marginally outside the crease when wicketkeeper Amy Jones dislodged the bails. This incident mirrored a previous dismissal in a T20 World Cup semifinal against Australia earlier in the year. Despite a promising innings of 49 runs off 81 balls, Kaur had to leave the field. This dismissal marked a recurring and unique dismissal for the Indian captain.
