Huge Blow for CSK as star all-rounder likely to miss the clash against MI in IPL

The Indian Premier League 2023 has gotten off to a rocking start as the matches have been very closely fought. The El Classico between the two biggest sides of the IPL, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, will be fought today. The two sides have made the IPL what it is and they have won nine titles between them. It promises to be a cracking contest. However, all is not rosy in the CSK camp.

According to the Indian Express, CSK has been handed a big blow as Ben Stokes is not likely to feature in the clash against MI. The all-rounder is said to have been prescribed 10 days of rest and recuperation after he felt pain in his heel. This happened after a practice session at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

Ben Stokes is tipped to be MS Dhoni’s successor at CSK going forward

CSK might not want to put Ben Stokes in the fire against MI. The Yellove Army’s medical team will assess the situation and then a final call will be taken before the game against MI. Stokes recently took England to their second 20-20 World title in Australia. The England all-rounder commanded a high price in the 2022 auction. He was brought by CSK for 16.25 crore INR. He has been off the boil for Chennai in two games that the Yellove Army has played so far.

Stokes had earlier played with MS Dhoni at Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2017. In the 12 games he played, he made 316 runs and picked up 12 wickets for the now-defunct franchise. His 316 runs also included a century against Gujarat Lions. Stokes made the hundred and helped RPSG win the game against Gujarat Lions. The Englishman is seen as the next potential captain to take over from MS Dhoni at CSK.

When Moeen Ali talked about the matter, he said that the change of hands could happen in due course. “CSK is the type of franchise where you come here and you do tend to enjoy yourself and really love playing for this franchise. He’s settled in really well. He’s a big part of the team with his experience,” Moeen said on Ben Stokes.
