The India and Pakistan rivalry is probably the biggest, in the ODI World Cup history. The arch-rivals have faced each other seven times in the history of the tournament. Both teams faced each other first time in the 1992 ODI World Cup followed by clashes in the later editions of the tournament, including 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015, and 2019.

In all these seven face-offs, India always dominated the men in green and emerged victorious. Now, both teams are set to lock horns once again in the ODI World Cup as they will be taking on each other in their next match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, in India.

ODI World Cup 1992, Sydney, India won by 43 runs

India and Pakistan locked horns in the ODI World Cup 1992, it was the first time when both teams faced each other in the prestigious cricket quadrennial. India batted first and posted a total of 216 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 49 overs. The match was reduced to 39 overs due to the slow over rate by Pakistan.

While chasing the target, Pakistan got bundled out on the score of 173 runs and lost the match by 43 runs to start their rivalry with Pakistan with a win.

ODI World Cup 1996, Bangalore, India won by 39 runs

It was the time when the ODI World Cup was being played in India and the hosts locked horns against Pakistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. India batted first once again and now they posted a total of 287 runs courtesy of Navjot Singh Sidhu’s brilliant 93-run knock in the first innings.

Chasing the target, Pakistan batters couldn’t survive against the spin-pace duo of Anil Kumble as both the bowlers scalped 3 and 4 wickets, respectively. It eventually guided India to a comfortable 39-run win against the arch-rivals.

ODI World Cup 1999, Manchester, India won by 47 runs

After a wait of 16 years, the ODI World Cup was hosted by the home of cricket, England. The tournament also witnessed the third match of the India-Pakistan rivalry in Manchester. The men in blue managed to get a total of 227 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the first innings. The then-youngster Sourav Ganguly played a crucial knock of 61 runs.

Star pace Venkatesh Prasad shone once again with the ball as he bagged 5 important wickets at the cost of just 27 runs, helping India register their third consecutive win against Pakistan in the ODI World Cups.

ODI World Cup 2003, Centurion, India won by 29 runs

Former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar was the highlight of this iconic clash between India and Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023. He played an amazing knock of 98 runs and smashed runs against the mighty pace attack of Pakistan, including Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, and Waqar Younis.

India scored 299 runs in the first innings, giving a mammoth target to the 1992 World Cup champions. But the young pace duo of Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan helped India to win this match by 29 runs after bundling out them on the score of 273 runs.

ODI World Cup 2011, Mohali, India won by 29 runs

After facing each other in the league matches of the various editions of the ODI World Cups, this time in the ODI World Cup 2011, India and Pakistan took on each other in the semi-final of the marquee international tournament. Both teams played this match at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on March 30, 2011.

India managed to put 260 runs for the loss of 9 wickets on the board in 50 overs. Star Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz claimed a five-wicket haul. But in the second innings, Pakistan’s batters failed once again and got bundled out on 231 runs, resulting in India’s another win by 29 runs in this hot rivalry.

ODI World Cup 2015, Adelaide, India won by 76 runs

The Asian cricketing giants faced off each other once again in the ODI World Cup and now it was during the ODI World Cup 2015, in Australia. Both teams played the league stage match in Adelaide. India managed to get 300 runs for the loss of 7 wickets courtesy of Virat Kohli’s brilliant century, scoring 107 runs.

Later during the run chase, the pace duo of Mohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami helped India to bundle out the opponents on the score of 224 runs and once again, it was India who won the match by 76 runs.

ODI World Cup 2019. Manchester, India won by 89 runs

The most recent battle between India and Pakistan in the ODI World Cup took place in the last edition of the tournament during ODI World Cup 2019. It was the second time when both teams were locking in the ODI World Cup at the Old Trafford Ground in Manchester. India batted first 336 runs in the first innings.

In the second innings, Indian bowlers dominated the Pakistan batting lineup for one more time and eventually, the two-time World Cup champions won the match by 89 runs to stay unassailable in this hot rivalry of the ODI World Cup.
