Shubman Gill set the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Hyderabad with his electrifying hitting. He smashed 208 off 149 balls with 19 fours and nine sixes. He helped India reach 349-8 in their 50 overs. India in the end survived a scare from Michael Bracewell, who scored 140 off 78 balls with 12 fours and 10 sixes and won by 12 runs.

Gill could have gotten a double century in the previous ODI against Sri Lanka at Thiruvananthapuram in the third ODI. Gill’s father Lakhwinder opined that he should have converted that hundred into a double ton. Gurkeerat Mann revealed the same when he was at Shubman’s house with his father when the right-handed batter had scored 116 off 97 balls against the Islanders.

Good to see Shubman converting his starts – Gurkeerat Mann

“You see how he is getting out, even after he scored a century, he had enough time to score a double century. He will not get these starts all the time. When will he learn?” Gurkeerat said in an interaction with the Indian Express. When the Punjab batter had hit a match-winning 91 at Brisbane, his father was disappointed that Gill could not score a century then.

His father echoed the same sentiments after Gill had scored his second ODI hundred against the Men from the Emerald Isle.

“Lakhwinder paaji always had high expectations from Shubman. We all had, right from his childhood days. It is good to see him finally converting his starts and I hope Lakhwinder paaji will be pleased today,” Gurkeerat added.

Gurkeerat said that Gill was not out of form but he was struggling to get the triple-figure score.

“He has always been scoring those 40s and 50s. But that century was not coming. The form was never an issue. A batter is out of form if he is struggling to get into double digits,” “He was always getting those starts. But a cricketer of his calibre will always be under pressure to perform. People will always expect him to score big runs,” The Punjab player stated.
