Argentina skipper Lionel Messi’s future with Paris Saint-Germain is in the veil as the club is yet to announce their contract renewal for the upcoming season. Messi, who was supposed to get a huge salary increase, is yet to receive any confirmation from the club. Meanwhile, a new report suggests that the club is considering not continuing with Messi to maintain Financial Fair Regulations before the new season.

The Ligue 1 giants are supposed to lay off Messi and use the amount to diversify the squad. In the current contractual cycle, Messi receives around EUR 740,000 per week. Apart from Messi, the team is also thinking to quash the contracts with former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos for the same reasons. Notably, PSG has been criticized by fans and experts for spending so much money on salaries, especially Messi’s.

Last Year after breaching, the FFP Team was forced to pay a fine of EUR 8.6 million. This year, it could go up to EUR 56.3 million, depending on the club’s continued compliance with the regulations. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi, who is currently playing friendly international games, can attract a huge contract from his former club Barcelona. He might also attract some expensive bids from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal which has expressed their interest to get the 35-year-old on board openly.

Messi continues to impress in international games

Amid the concerns over his deal with PSG Messi is currently having a dream run with the national side. Last week, Messi has led the World Champions in two friendly games against Panama and Curacao. He has scored four goals in two games including a Hat-trick against Curacao. The 35-year-old superstar also becomes the first Argentinian player to score 100 goals in international games.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Messi was also felicitated by the South American Football Federation for his contribution to the game. A life-size statue of him was unveiled at the Museum alongside Maradona and Pele.
