‘Greatest of all time’ – Twitter reacts to fan lifting Cristiano Ronaldo during Portugal-Bosnia game

A bizarre incident unfolded during the Portugal vs Bosnia clash. Cristiano Ronaldo was tightly hugged and lifted into the air by a fan who invaded the pitch. The game took place in Lisbon where Portugal’s might was no match to that of Bosnia in their 2-0 victory. Bernando Silva scored the first goal and got Portugal up and running. Later in the game, Bruno Fernandez scored his first and ensured there were no hiccups.

There was a halt in play when a fan an onto the pitch carrying a Portugal flag in his hand. The fan wanted to meet Ronaldo at all costs. The enthusiast went right towards Ronaldo and carried him by lifting him up in the air in a joyful manner. The fan also broke into a hug. Shortly after he had his moment, there were several stewards who came in and took the invader away from the football pitch.

Even as the security staff arrived at the scene, he managed to give them the slip by escaping to the other side of the pitch. Before signing off, he even imitated Ronaldo’s signature goal celebration and left the field with a glint in his eyes and a broad smile. When the events unfolded, Ronaldo himself was amused with how it all happened. The stewards though were hot on the invader’s heels, they got to him reprimanded him for his actions and took him away.

Ronaldo had a milestone in the match against Bosnia, he earned his 199th cap for his country. Ronaldo tried everything to conjure a goal in the game, but it was in vain. Right before the halftime break, he managed to get a looping header in but the ball was adjudged as an offside and was not shown against Ronaldo’s name. Portugal with this win are sitting pretty at the top in group J for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

For Bosnia, it was a game to forget as they have sunk down to fourth place and now find Luxembourg above them. Bosnia came close to finding the lead in the first half, but Edin Dzeko could not get a goal after he tried to volley the ball in. Portugal will go up against Iceland in their next fixture, which will be held on Tuesday in Reykjavik.
