The final of the inaugural season of the Major Cricket League 2023 saw one of the greatest T20 knocks of all time. The captain of MI New York played a blinder and helped his team to win the finals. It was a spectacular inning from the Southpaw against Seattle Orcas. Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 137*(55) singlehandedly won the final for MI New York.

On a good wicket in Dallas, MI New York won the toss and opted to bowl first. Seattle Orcas posted a good total of 183/9 in their 20 overs. Quinton De Kock played very good innings of 87(52) and helped Orcas to get to the total. The Southpaw was helped by the cameos of Shubham Ranjane and Dwaine Pretorius who scored 29(16) and 21(7) respectively.

Despite the lack of support from the other end, De Kock played a great innings and helped Orcas to get past 180. For MI New York, Trent Boult and Rashid Khan claimed 3 wickets each. The latter was sensational in his spell, as he conceded only 9 runs in 4 overs. Chasing the target, MI was in trouble straightaway, as they lost Steven Taylor in the very first over.

Sensational innings of Nicholas Pooran

The 27-year-old literally smashed all the bowlers for fun. Against an attack consisting of Imad Wasim, Dwaine Pretorius, Cameron Gannon, Wayne Parnell, Harmeet Singh, and Andrew Tye, Pooran scored a whopping 127 runs in the run chase of 184. The Trinidad-born batter scored 69% of the team’s runs by himself!

The knock of the MI New York captain included 10 boundaries and 13 huge sixes. A total of 118 runs came by just boundaries! 137 runs scored by Pooran is the highest score ever in a final of a T20 match while chasing a target. Pooran got near to no support from the other end. The only genuine support he got was from Dewald Brevis, who himself scored only 20(18). Pooran was unsurprisingly awarded the Player of the Match for his great innings.
