MS Dhoni wrote yet another glorious chapter in Chennai Super Kings history as he led them to a fifth Indian Premier League title. He came to bat lower down the order. When he did so, he played short but impactful knocks which gave the perfect finish for the side. MS Dhoni batted with a strike rate of 182.45 and almost got his side over the line at home in a game against the Rajasthan Royals. There were several reports that suggested MS Dhoni will retire after IPL 2023.

After CSK won the title, MS Dhoni said that he will most likely play in IPL 2024 as a goodwill gesture for the fans. If he comes back then he will be there until the mega-auction in 2025 if it takes place. Speaking on MS Dhoni Wasim Akram felt MS Dhoni would have extended his India career for a bigger span of time but feels that he made the right call to bid adieu to the game in August 2020.

MS Dhoni still has the passion to play and he will train – Wasim Akram

“He could have still played for India if he wanted to, considering his performances. But, he retired at the right time and that’s why Dhoni is Dhoni,” Akram said on Sportskeeda. The legendary Pakistan pacer also felt that Dhoni will be back next year. “I think he’ll come back stronger next year.” Akram then called MS Dhoni a “gem of a cricketer” and hailed his exploits as captain in the IPL.

“He has the experience, calmness and is physically very fit. Most importantly, he has the passion to play. No matter how fit you are, if you don’t have the passion, you will not be able to come up with performances.” “He is physically fit and did not sit out of any matches [in IPL 2023]. After a certain age, making a comeback is difficult. But, knowing Dhoni, if that passion is still there, he will train. Match practice is very important, but I am sure he knows what he is doing.” Akram added.

“Whenever Dhoni quits cricket, I am sure he will stay with CSK as a mentor, a president or whatever the word is. I don’t think Dhoni and CSK will separate,” He further reiterated. CSK have become the most successful franchise in IPL history along with Mumbai Indians in terms of titles.
