Former Australia captain gives his assessment on Indian team in ODI World Cup 2023

India is unbeaten after the first three matches in the ODI World Cup 2023.

India is in a terrific form in the ongoing ODI World Cup in 2023. In their first match in the tournament, India defeated Australia and made a fine start to their campaign in Chennai. In their second match, the Indian team defeated Afghanistan in Delhi to claim the second win of the tournament. The third win was a lot more important for India, as they faced their arch-rivals in the match.

India have not just beaten Pakistan in Ahmedabad but have extended the winning streak to 8-0 against the arch-rivals in the ODI World Cup 2023. The form of India has amazed many experts and former cricketers. The former Australia captain has his view regarding the same. Speaking about India’s form in the tournament, Ponting felt that India is the team to beat.

“I said from the start that I think they’re going to be the team to beat. They’ve got a very talented team. They’ve got all bases covered with their fast bowling, their spin and their top-order, middle-order batting. They’re going to be extremely hard to beat. But we’ll see how they hold up under extreme pressure as well,” said Ponting about the Indian team.

Indian captain not too carried away with wins

While the former Australia captain was all praises for the Indian team, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma was wary about the things. After the match against Pakistan, Rohit said that they do not want to get too excited, as it is still a long tournament. “I will keep my fingers crossed. We don’t want to get too excited and also not get too low as well. It is a long tournament, nine league games and then the semis and final,” said Rohit.

“Just have to keep the balance and go forward. I have said it before, for us it was an opposition [Pakistan] we wanted to play. Every opposition we come against they can beat you. We have to be good on that particular day. The past and future does not matter,” added Rohit.
