Sumit Nagal goes down against Juncheng Shang of China in 2nd round of Australian Open 2024

Sumit Nagal lost the 2nd round match of the Australian Open 2024 after putting up a brilliant performance. In the match against Juncheng Shang of China, Nagal performed well in the first few hours but lost steam after claiming the first set. The talented player impressed everyone with his fight and skills but could not qualify for the third round of the tournament.

After defeating Alexander Bublik in the first round of the Australian Open 2024, there were high expectations for the Indian player to do well against the Chinese in the 2nd round. Bublik was a seeded player, while Chang was not. Hence, the loss of Nagal came as a bit of a surprise, although the Chinese performed well in the match by clinching the crunch moments of the game in different sets.

Nagal dominated the game in the first set as he clinched it by a margin of 6-2. The Chinese took some time to analyze the play of the Indian. It was visible in the way he came out against Nagal in the 2nd set. At one point, the score was 4-1 in favour of Chang. Sumit made a comeback but could not clinch the second set which he lost by 3-6.

The third set was close between the two players. It saw each of them going against each other almost neck-to-neck. At one stage, the score read 5-5 and seemed like it was heading towards a tiebreaker. But the Chinese were able to conquer the Indians under pressure by claiming both the games of the set to claim a lead of 2-1 in the match.

The set gave Chang the momentum to ride on. It helped him to outsmart the Indian in the progression of the game. The fifth set was won by the Chinese in the process by 6-4. It was evident that Sumit had given a brilliant performance despite not being able to win the match. Fans were impressed by the show of Nagal in the tournament despite not winning the 2nd round match.
