As the Indian Premier League 2023 nears its end, fans are still waiting to know all the teams to make it to the playoffs. Eyeing second place on the points table, Chennai Super Kings took on Delhi Capitals in the 67th match of the season.
Winning the toss, MS Dhoni opted to bat first at the Arun Jaitely Stadium. This decision worked out really well for the Men in Yellow as Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad set the stage on fire. The two put on a 141-run opening partnership, with both batters dominating the scoring.
Gaikwad (79 runs in 50 balls) was finally dismissed by Chetan Sakariya in the 15th over. However, Shivam Dube had a brief appearance, scoring 22 runs in 9 balls, while Conway went on to score 87 runs in 52 balls. CSK managed to score 223/3 in the first innings, thanks to a cameo of 7-ball 20 by Ravindra Jadeja.
The Capitals’ chase did not start well, as they lost Prithvi Shaw in the second over. The home side was in deep trouble as they lost two more wickets in the powerplay and managed only 34 runs. Skipper David Warner, once again, was the only saving grace for their batting lineup as he went on to score another half-century of the season.
While chasing the massive score, the rest of the batting order showed little intent throughout the contest. As a result, all the pressure was on Warner as wickets kept falling at one end. Half of their batting lineup was sent back for a team score of just 109 in 13.3 overs.
While a couple of more wickets fell for DC, Warner went on to score 86 runs in 58 balls. He was finally dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana in the 19th over of the game. In the end, DC was restricted to a score of 146. CSK beat DC by 77 runs to book a spot in the playoffs. They will most likely play in Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans.

Equations:
1) KKR needs to chase in 8 overs to go past RCB
2) if KKR chases in 17 overs or less, LSG's NRR will drop below RCB's
3) LSG needs to win by 95 runs or more to claim 2nd spot.— Sahil Kumar (@sahil_pec) May 20, 2023
Why did even DC play this match 😂
