The Asia Cup has seen some brilliant matches over the years and some thrilling encounters in recent years with no one being the favourites to win it Pakistan suffered its biggest-ever defeat in One Day Internationals (ODIs) against arch-rival India in the Asia Cup Super 4 clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday.

Pakistan lost by 16 runs in a thriller game in the 2010 Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka. Afridi blasted 109 in 76 balls before his side were dismissed for 226 in reply to Sri Lanka’s 242 for nine in an action-packed curtain-raiser to the four-team tournament. Despite the best efforts of Pakistan’s lower order, they were blown away by Malinga, who returned to pick up figures of five for 34.

Batting first, Sri Lanka was in trouble with Shoaib Akhtar who was returning to the team rattled the Lankan team. He picked up three wickets for 41. Mahela Jayawardene scored 54 and captain Sangakkara scored 42 runs and added 83 for the third wicket after the openers fell early but Sri Lanka was then pegged back by a strong Pakistan bowling attack. In reply, Pakistan was in trouble at 32-4 after Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga sent all the top-order batters in the Pavilion. But Afridi’s 76 ball 109 runs was not enough to take his team through.
