Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film with director Venkat Prabhu is still making headlines. The crew just returned from Bangkok, where they shot an intense car chase scene starring Vijay. According to the latest reports, Thalapathy Vijay’s next film, tentatively titled Thalapathy 68, will be a Tamil remake of the 2012 Hollywood film Looper, which starred Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Emily Blunt. The film, a science fiction action-thriller, was a box office success as well as receiving positive critical acclaim.

Looper’s plot is set in the year 2044, and the lead character Joe (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is an assassin, or “looper,” for the Kansas City crime syndicate. The Loopers are tasked with assassinating convicts from the future who have been sent back in time from the year 2075. However, as Joe becomes more involved, things become more intense. Knives Out director Rian Johnson’s film was a huge success back in 2012.

Thalapathy 68 plot revealed!

Though it has not been confirmed that Thalapathy 68 is a remake of the film Looper, bringing such an intriguing plot into the context of Tamil cinema and roping in a massive star like Thalapathy Vijay is an experimental outing. If this is true, the film will have a significant impact on action and rely heavily on VFX. Thalapathy Vijay was most recently seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj‘s Leo, which is still playing in theatres. The film, which was an Indian adaptation of David Cronenberg’s film History of Violence, went on to become Tamil cinema’s biggest blockbuster.

Following that, filming for Venkat Prabhu’s Thalapathy 68 began, and the cast and crew were revealed during the Dussehra festival. Prabhu Deva, Mic Mohan, Prashanth, Sneha, Laila, Yogi Babu, Meenakshi Chaudhary, and many other actors appear in the film. The team had previously flown to Los Angeles to build the de-ageing technology for the film, which will most likely feature Thalapathy Vijay in dual roles.
