FIFA World Cup 2022, Day 4: Japan outclass Argentina, Spain crush Costa Rica, Morocco face draw while Belgium win

The FIFA World Cup 2022 kicked off on November 20 in Qatar and the biggest sporting event is fast becoming a treat for football fans, as the tournament has been witnessing upsets like never before. For the unversed, the first upset of the tournament came when Saudi Arabia defeated Argentina on November 22, Tuesday. 

On Wednesday, four matches were played and it was Spain, who came out on top with the biggest win of the ongoing tournament in terms of goals scored. To add more, Spain crushed Costa Rica and eventually took home 3 points, inching closer to making it through to the next round. 

Here are the match reports for Day 4 of the FIFA World Cup 2022:

1) Morocco vs Croatia (0-0)

The first battle of the day between Morocco and Croatia ended in a draw as both teams failed to score a goal to their names. While Croatia outplayed for two-thirds of the game, Morocco’s stupendous defence ensured the former remained goalless throughout the game. 

However, both teams failed to capitalize on their opportunities, despite coming up with numerous chances in frequent intervals. At the end of 90 minutes, Morocco and Croatia settled for a draw and eventually took home one point apiece. 

2) Germany vs Japan (1-2)

Japan produced the second upset of the tournament when they defeated Germany in the ongoing multinational tournament. For the unversed, it was Germany’s İlkay Gündoğan who produced the early lead in the 33rd minute, on the back of a penalty. 

However, Ritsu Doan bounced back for Japan in the second half and eventually matched the lead, surprising the entire spectators. Much to the stupefaction of the Japanese fans, Takuma Asano scored the winning goal for the team and took home the 3 points. 

3) Spain vs Costa Rica (7-0)

Spain produced the biggest win in the ongoing tournament in terms of goals scored and Costa Rica were left running all around the ground. Eventually, it was the La Furia Roja who started coming up with goals at regular intervals. 

While Ferran Torress grabbed a brace for the team, the likes of Gavi, Carlos Soler and others ensured that Spain remained in the game throughout, eventually leading to a big victory at the stroke of the final whistle. 

4) Belgium vs Canada (1-0)

Belgium crushed Canada in the final clash of Day 4 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and it was Michy Batshuayi who scored the winning goal for the team. However, Canada kept fighting till the end, eventually failing to match the lead. 

To add more, the Maple Leafs managed to come up with 22 shots, with 3 on target and none of them managed to get past Belgium’s goalkeeper, much to the dreariness of the team management and fans.
