With keen eyes and calculated bids, the IPL franchises are weaving their magic in the IPL Auction, which is currently underway in Dubai. Each team, has been driven by their distinct goals and the player they need as they assemble their squad piece by piece, aiming to conquer the upcoming IPL season.

Ahead of the IPL, plenty of fans and pundits have expected Travis Head, the experienced left-handed batter from Australia to go for a huge amount. However, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have managed to snap him for just 6.8 Crores, in contrary to what fans and pundits predicted. Considering how hot Head’s form has been lately, after the smashing tons at the World Cup and the racking up runs for Australia, this price tag feels like a steal. Capable of batting in different positions, Head is also an off-spin bowler, which will be useful in Indian conditions. Adding to that, he has leadership credentials as he was recently appointed as the co. vice-captain of the Australian Test squad. That he is a left-hander, gives him an extra edge.

Hence, it seems like the Sunrisers just hit a jackpot. One thing’s for sure is that they have a serious talent in their ranks without splurging too much money.

CSK miss out on Head’s services

Head, whose base price was set at 2 Crores, received an opening bid from the Sunrisers, led by their enthusiastic owner, Kaviya Maran. The Chennai Super Kings tried their level best to acquire Head had to take a step back ater SRH’s last bid which stood at 6.8 Cr. CSK might have been looking for a back-up opener, but given that they already have Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad, they have deemed the price too much. It was surprising to see that no other team showed interest in Head after CSK pulled out.

Head has previously featured in the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He didn’t really impose himself but, coming back as an experienced player, he will be looking to make an impact for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Here’s how ‘X-verse’ reacted to SRH’s acquisition of Head:
