The first game in the Commonwealth games 2022 between the Women in Blue and the Australians turned out to be a high-voltage encounter. The added advantage in the Commonwealth Games is that the teams have the added motivation of getting a medal and going all out for a podium finish.ย In the build-up to the contest, Harmanpreet Kaur said that they were excited to play in the games and that they were confident of winning as a team.
The Women in Blue ace batter Smriti Mandhana also said that in a T20 game any team can beat any team and she also downplayed the Australian threat saying that the Women in Blue have a good chance of beating Australia. She also said that she seeks inspiration from Neeraj Chopra’s Olympic medal moment and yearns to do the same for the nation.
The first game of the Commonwealth games kicked off with an intense battle between the Women in Blue and Australia. The Women in Blue wanted to post a good total on the board. Smriti Mandhana got her team off to a good start and slammed 5 boundaries in her quickfire 24 runs of just 17 balls. Shefali Verma was sent to bludgeon the bowling and she did exactly that. She smashed 9 fours en-route to a quick fire 48 of just 33 balls.
There was a mini collapse in the middle with Yastika Bhatia , Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma departing quickly. But the star of the innings for the Women in Blue was Harmanpreet Kaur asย she brought the Thor out. She was on a mission to resurrect India to a fighting total.
Kaur hit 8 fours and a massive six in a superb innings of 52 of just 34 balls. She hit some breathtaking shots and made sure India end the first half of the match on a high and that they have the much needed momentum going into the second innings
Harmanpreet Kaur’s stellar innings had Twitter abuzz as always and we will take a look at some of the reactions here:

Excellent start to #CWG2022 for Harmanpreet Kaur with the bat. That T20I half-century took some time coming – it was her first fifty-plus score since the century in the T20 World Cup 2018 – but she did play some good knocks in between and has been in good touch this year. #B2022
