Journalist Dean Jones has ignited a transfer rumour inferno, suggesting Aston Villa are eyeing Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe. The 23-year-old midfielder, once a mainstay at the Emirates, has found himself eclipsed by Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard, making a mere 11 appearances this season with a solitary assist. This lack of playing time has cast a shadow over Smith Rowe’s future, and Jones’ whispers have only amplified the intrigue.

Arsenal, fiercely protective of their homegrown talent, would likely entertain offers only for a significant sum. Smith Rowe’s undeniable skill and potential remain, but his limited opportunities raise questions about his long-term fit in Mikel Arteta’s plans. Should Villa come knocking with a tempting proposition, the Gunners could face a pivotal decision of whether to nurture their struggling talent or allow him to seek greener pastures and reignite his career elsewhere.

Aston Villa is reportedly poised for another attempt to pry him away. Journalist Dean Jones suggests Villa could renew their pursuit even if a January transfer fails to materialize, hinting at a long-term interest in the talented midfielder. This potential rekindling of the saga stems from Villa’s previous efforts. The Athletic reports that a £25 million bid for Smith Rowe back in 2021 fell short, but the club’s current trajectory under Unai Emery might prove irresistible. Villa’s impressive second-place standing in the Premier League paints a picture of renewed ambition, potentially making them a more appealing destination for Smith Rowe, who has found himself warming the bench in recent times.

“This would be the ideal moment”

“Villa made a couple of bids for Smith Rowe last year and if that interest is still bubbling away, then this would be an ideal moment to go and have another go. I feel like Arsenal will be tempted to cash in on someone who isn’t an essential first-team player,” Jones said

He also explained the benefits that Rowe’s inclusion would reap for Villa. “Smith Rowe is a very good player with a really good attitude and good application. I think it’d be a very good signing for Aston Villa. Part of me does wonder if they’ve been keeping an eye on the fact he’s only started one Premier League game this season,” he added.
