Bangladesh has faced injury concerns before the start of the Asia Cup 2023; they will play their first game against Sri Lanka on August 31. Wicketkeeper batter Liton Das is ruled out as he was unable to recover from the viral fever. For now, Das didn’t travel to Sri Lanka for his side’s opening game in Pallekele.

However, the Bangladesh National Selection Panel has now announced that the replacement for Litton, Anamull Haque Bijoy, the wicketkeeper-batsman, will be joining the squad in the Island nation for the continental championship. Bijoy has represented Bangladesh in 44 ODIs and has made 1254 runs, including three centuries. The 30-year-old made his last appearance for the Bangla Tigers in December last year in a home series against India.

He (Liton Das) was always in our consideration: Bangladesh Apex Body for Cricket

He (Anamul) has been among the runs in domestic cricket and we have continued to monitor him in the Bangladesh Tigers programme. He was always in our consideration,”  the Bangladesh Apex Body for Cricket briefed.

“Due to Litton’s unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could keep wicket and Anamul got the nod,” further added.

It is pertinent to mention that the Asia Cup 2023 is set to begin on August 30 with the opening game between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka and Pakistan are co-hosting the continental championship together. The most anticipated clash of the tournament is on September 2, when India will take on Pakistan at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The tournament is set to be played between the six teams and the 16th edition of the tournament will be played in ODI format keeping in consideration for upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
