In a recent piece of news, former legendary England batter and ex-skipper Alastair Cook announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Cook came up with this decision after 5 years of his last international match against India in the Oval Test, in 2018. After he retired from international cricket, Cook was active in the English county cricket for Essex.

The Gloucester-born cricketing great served English cricket with his brilliant batting in his 12-year-long international career. Cook scored 12472 runs in 291 innings of the 161 Tests, he played for England. In these matches, he scored 33 centuries and 57 half-centuries.

He is still on the list of highest run-scorers in Test cricket even after five years of his retirement from international cricket. Apart from that, he also represented the Three Lions in 92 ODIs; he batted in all 92 innings of these 92 ODIs and scored 3204 runs with a fine average of 36.40, including 5 centuries and 19 half-centuries.

A glorious career comes to an end

Speaking of his performances in First-Class cricket, he is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats who served the English First-Class cricket for a long time. He scored 26643 runs in 619 innings of the 352 FC matches he played for his county Essex. In these matches; Cook batted in completely a different manner and smashed 74 centuries, alongside 125 half-centuries.

Under Cookโ€™s captaincy, England also made it to the final of the Champions Trophy 2013, where they lost to India by a very close margin of 5 runs. Notably, he was the second skipper for England after Michael Vaughan to lead the team in the summit clash of the Champions Trophy.

The 38-year-old played his last First-Class match for Essex against Northants at Northampton, last month from September 26 to 28. Now, the cricket fans might see the former England great in a different role like a commentator or something else in cricket.
