Former Australian great, Glenn Mcgrath was known for his excellent bowling abilities in all conditions. He is regarded as one of the all-time greats in the game. Recently, the 52-year-old fast bowler talked about India’s rising pace sensation, Umran Malik.
Umran Malik is known as the new pace sensation of India. His impressive performance for his Hyderabad franchise earned him a maiden call-up to India for the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa. Speaking in a free-wheeling chat on NDTV, McGrath heaped high praises for this newcomer.
“As long as his work ethic is good, he will improve” – Glenn McGrath
Speaking about Umran, McGrath said that he needs to work harder to earn a maiden Test call-up.
“Yeah, bowling express pace is something which is quite unique. And it is very special. If you can combine that extreme pace with control and consistency, then you become a very dangerous bowler. It is just about getting that experience, once you get to the top, you have to work even harder. As long as his work ethic is good and he looks to improve, who knows where he can go.” McGrath said.
He also added that there is still time left for him to get into the longest format of the game.
“There is still time for him (Umran playing Tests). You have to get out there and do the business in first-class cricket as well. When you are bowling express pace, everyone gets excited and fair enough, but yeah, to be around the team, is pretty special. I have not spent any time with him, so I do not know what he is like as a character and how he goes about things.” he added.
In his illustrious career, Glenn McGrath picked 563 wickets in 124 matches at an average of 21.6. Besides, he also played 250 ODIs, picking 381 wickets at an average of 22.00.
