Cricket can be a dangerous sport at times for the players. One cannot ignore the fact that a cricket ball, when bowled at a serious pace, can take the lives of a cricketer, even with all the advancements in sports. Despite the protective equipment, cricketers have died on the field. The leather ball can damage the cricketers so badly. Phillip Hughes of Australia is an unfortunate example of it. 

While many are aware of Hughes’ death, there are eight such cricketers who have died while playing match. Although the reasons are different for the death of these cricketers, it can be scary to think that the players can die while playing a match. There are various reasons for the death of the cricketers while playing matches.

9. Darryn Randall

Randall was born in east London on 2nd December 1980. The South African cricketer played for his domestic team ‘Border’ in domestic cricket. The wicketkeeper batter was playing a match in Alice of Eastern Cape in 2013 when a ball hit him on the head. The impact was so deadly that Randall fell unconscious and died instantly. The incident happened on the 27th of October in 2013, when Randall was aged 32.
