‘Create a pitch that produces results’ – Aakash Chopra warns India against making rank turners against England

India is ready to start their 5-match Test series against England from 25th January. The series opener will be held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. In the sub-continent pitches are rank turners and it is expected that the pitch will turn from Day 1 of the match.

Indian commentator Aakash Chopra, on the other hand, has urged the country against creating rank-turners in the upcoming Test series against England. Chopra, speaking on his YouTube channel a day before the first Test, stated that India’s fixation with pitch is not good. Chopra used the 2023 ODI World Cup Final as an example, where the Indian squad lost despite a favourable condition against the Pat Cummins’ side.

“The biggest question ahead of the series is should rank turners be made? I am saying and have been saying for a long time – you lost the World Cup final also due to your obsession with the pitch. Preparing a pitch favouring you cost you the finals,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“You might call this a different format. It’s about the habit, not the format. You become complacent. Simply offer the curator one instruction: create a pitch that produces results. “It shouldn’t be a road-like pitch,” Chopra continued.

India will win the five-match series because of their superior spin attack

Ahmedabad curators had prepared a dry pitch for the ODI World Cup 2023 final. Where India chose to bat first with the expectation of the wicket getting slower as time went but that didn’t happen. By the second innings, the pitch got better under lights as the dew came in. However, India put a fighting total of 240 runs but the mighty Aussies chased down as Travis Head smashed 137 runs from 120 balls which included 4 sixes and 15 fours.

Chopra discussed both teams’ spin attacking options and predicted that India would win the five-match series because of their superior spin attack. India’s squad includes Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav, all of whom have recently played admirably.

“The scales are clearly tipped in India’s favour, and they will win this series. The question is whether it will be 4-0, 5-0, or 4-1. However, which match will England win, and how will they take 20 wickets when the spin attack is so weak?” Chopra spoke.

“I don’t see much strength in the spin bowling. So, if you don’t make turning pitches, you can score 500 runs against them at least three times during the series, and possibly more. “I believe you will easily win this series,” said the former Indian cricketer.
