‘Ye to ODI me bhi T20 khel rahe hai’ – Fans react as Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope smash centuries against Nepal in World Cup qualifiers

In the ongoing World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, West Indies faced Nepal in the 9th Match on Thursday. After being called to bat first, West Indies scored 329 runs in 50 overs. Stat batter Shai Hope and wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran scored a magnificent century as they outplayed Nepal with the bat.

Pooran, in his innings, scored 115 runs off just 94 balls with the help of ten boundaries and four sixes. He played some beautiful shots before getting dismissed by Dipendra Singh. Meanwhile, skipper  Shai Hope scored 132 runs off 129 balls with the help of ten boundaries and three sixes. Both added 216 runs for the fourth wicket as they pulled West Indies from 55 for 3 to 271 for 4.

Earlier, Nepal won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision went well with the team as they clinched three quick wickets to push West Indies on the back foot. Opener Kyle Mayers, Jason Charles and Brandon King scored 1, 0 and 32, respectively. Mayers was dismissed by Karan KC, while Sandeep Lamichhane clinched King’s wicket.

Rovman Powell and Jason Holder help the Caribbean team to cross the 300-run mark

In the end, allrounders Rovman Powell and Jason Holder added quick runs to help West Indies cross the 300+ mark. Powell, in his innings, scored 29 runs off 14 balls with the help of three boundaries and a six. Meanwhile, Holder scored 16 runs off 10 balls with the help of two boundaries. For Nepal, Lajith Rajbanshi clinched three wickets, while Karan, Sabdeep, Gulshan Jha and Dipendra Singh clinched one wicket each.

In the ongoing tournament, West Indies won their first game against the United States of America by 39 runs. On the other hand, Nepal lost one game against Zimbabwe by 8 wickets, while winning the second game against the USA by 6 wickets. Both of the teams would like to continue their winning run to make it to the super six.
