The second Test between Pakistan and New Zealand got underway on Monday at National Stadium, Karachi. After the first match ended in a draw, both teams are eager to win the second Test and clinch the series. New Zealand captain Tim Southee called it correctly at the toss and elected to bat first.

New Zealand openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway started cautiously early in the innings as they saw off the first three overs. The first boundary of the day was scored by the centurion of the last Test Tom Latham against Naseem Shah in the fourth over of the day. The boundary was the first of many which were to be scored throughout the day by New Zealand batters.

They brought up their 50-run stand in the 11th over of the innings as they were scoring at almost 5 runs per over. Both batters looked unperturbed by the pitch and brought up their second 100-run stand of the series in just 145 balls. New Zealand finished their first session on 119/0 with both openers reaching their half-century.

Pakistan finally got their first success on the score of 134 as Naseem Shah trapped Latham in front of the stumps. Latham departed after scoring 71 off 100 balls, his wicket brought Kane Williamson to the crease. At the other end, Devon Conway continued his brilliant innings and took the scoreboard ahead. He brought up his fourth Test hundred in the second session as New Zealand brought up their 200 in the 52nd over.

Agha Salman brought Pakistan back into the match in third session

New Zealand had another remarkable session as they finished on 226/1 at Tea. The third session brought some more success for Pakistan as Agha Salman made Conway edge the ball to the gloves of Sarfaraz Khan. The left-hander departed after scoring a sumptuous 122.

Conway’s wicket sparked a collapse for New Zealand as they went from 240/2 to 279/6 in the third session. Agha Salman picked up three wickets while Naseem Shah scalped two.
