Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam made history by completing his 5,000 ODI runs in the quickest time ever. At the Karachi Cricket Stadium, during the fourth ODI against New Zealand, the Pakistani captain reached the milestone with his 19th run. Babar reached the milestone in his 97th innings, surpassing Hashim Amla of South Africa, who took 101 innings to achieve the milestone.

Following Babar’s 97 innings and 5,000 ODI runs are Amla (101), Vivian Richards (114), Virat Kohli (114), and David Warner (115). Babar is also the joint-second-fastest to 2,000 and the third-fastest to 4,000 runs, 3,000 ODI runs, and 3,000 runs overall. He also reached 1,000 ODI runs the third-fastest of any player and it simply means that Babar has displayed excellent consistency in the white ball format over the years.

Babar has performed brilliantly against the Kiwis and is the 14th Pakistani batsman to reach the milestone of 5,000 runs in ODIs. He has scored nearly 750 runs in 18 one-day internationals against them, with an average and strike rate of over 43 and 80, respectively. The total consists of seven fifties and one ton. In the current series, his were 54, 65, and 49.

Brilliant performance by Pakistan against New Zealand

Babar is compared with Kohli a lot these days and it is also one of the biggest reasons why he gets trolled on social media. Although, he might have broken the fastest to reach 5000 runs record, but one must know that the former Indian captain had done it when he was just 24 years old against better bowling attacks and he still managed to sustain the same form for more than a decade.

Meanwhile, the Men in Green are clashing against the Blackcaps in the 4th match of the 5-match ODI series in which New Zealand skipper Tom Latham opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Pakistan, who have already won an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, were forced to leave out Mohammad Nawaz after he injured a finger in the third match on Wednesday. Also gone are Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, Abdullah Shafique, and Naseem Shah are out in the 4th ODI. They are replaced by Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Haris, Haris Rauf, and Usama Mir.
