India and Australia clashed at the World Wankhede Stadium for the first ODI. The Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bowl first. They were right on the money from the get-go as the bowlers put on a great show. Australia were bundled out for 188. In the run chase, India suffered a top-order jolt at the hands of Mitchell Starc who picked up three wickets which reduced India to 39-4.
KL Rahul played a mature knock under pressure. The Karnataka batter scored an invaluable 75 off 91 balls with seven fours and one six. The right-hander put on a 150 partnership with Ravindra Jadeja and bailed India out of trouble. Lot of fans praised Rahul for his innings. One among then was Venkatesh Prasad who had previously crtisised Rahul for his poor run of form.

A lot of fans heavily trolled Prasad for changing his stance on Rahul. Prasad had earlier pointed out that the 30-year-olds Test record was not up to the mark. He had called for Rahul’s exclusion from the Test side based on his form. Notably, the man from Karnataka played the first two Tests against Australia.
Poor returns in those four innings meant that he was shunted out of the side. Rahul was also reportedly taken out as vice-captain in the Indian Test side. Shubman Gill replaced Rahul at Indore. Gill smashed his second century in Test cricket, and it was also his first one on home soil. Rahul has been good as a middle order batter for India in ODIs. Whenever he has batted at no 5 since December 2022, he has scored 280 runs at an average of 56. He has a strike rate of 83.08. He has got the highest score of an unbeaten 75.
