In a major development from the Bangalore camp, star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is all set to miss the opener against Mumbai as he continues to recover from his leg injury. Maxwell, who broke his leg in a freak accident last November, returned to international cricket earlier this month during India-Australia one-day internationals but missed the final two games.

According to national selector George Bailey, the all-return rounder’s return to the highest level was “more demanding than he had expected”. He is currently working hard on strength and conditioning to be ready for Bangalore’s opener on April 2nd.

In addition, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is expected to miss the first few days of the tournament as he recovers from an Achilles injury that kept him out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. The 32-year-old is hoping to play in the later stages of the tournament for Bangalore.

Rajat Patidar had already been ruled out for the team’s first few matches due to a heel injury, and the news of Maxwell’s doubt for the opener and Hazlewood missing multiple matches will be a further setback for the 2016 finalists.

The team led by Faf du Plessis had secured a playoff berth in Indian T20 League 2022, but they failed to get the trophy once more as they were eliminated after losing Qualifier 2. The Men in Black and Red will look to change their fortunes this time and get their hands on their first-ever title.

Bangalore will begin their campaign against Mumbai on the 2nd of April at their home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This will be their first home game since the 2019 season.
