Rohit Sharma will be leading India for the first time in a World Cup. The Men in Blue will want to break the jinx of not winning a World event in 10 years. According to reports India will select the final XI of the World Cup on September 3. After the squad for the Asia Cup was selected there were a lot of questions raised. It remains to be seen whether the trio of Rohit, Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar will make any changes to the final 15.

Talking about the Indian Team selection, this is what Rohit Sharma had to say. He said personal preferences are kept aside when a cricketer is picked into or dropped from the Indian Team. “It’s not like, I don’t like this person, so I am dropping him. Captaincy is not based on personal likes and dislikes. If anyone misses out, there is a reason for it. If you are the unlucky one, we can do nothing.” He was quoted as saying in the Press conference ahead of the Asia Cup.

We have had one-on-one sessions with players who have not been picked – Rohit Sharma

“While picking the best combination, there will be guys who will miss out for various reasons and Rahul bhai (Dravid) and I have tried our best to explain to the players why they are not in the squad. We have tried to communicate with the players after every selection and playing XI that has been announced. We talk to them face to face, one-on-one why they have not been picked,”  Rohit added. Yuzvendra Chahal was the big omission from the Asia Cup squad.

When the squad came through, the fans raised questions as to why only three spinners were selected when India were playing all their matches in Sri Lanka. A lot of them also pointed fingers at an only right-arm pace attack. Arshdeep Singh was under the scheme of things for the Men in Blue but he has been dropped for the continental tournament. Sanju Samson will be accompanying the Asia Cup side as a travelling reserve and will likely fill in for KL Rahul during the initial stages as he is carrying a niggle.
