Pakistan Wicketkeeper batter Azam Khan scored his maiden T20 hundred in Match no 6 of the Bangladesh Premier League between Khulna Tigers and Chattogram Challengers. Khan played a sensational knock of 109 off 58 balls as the Tigers racked up a decent score of 178 for the loss of five wickets after being put in to bat first.

Khan walked in to bat as Tigers were reeling at 12/2 after they lost the crucial wickets of Sharjeel Khan and Habibur Rahman Sohan. From there on, Azam stitched a 92-run stand in 62 balls with Tamim Iqbal for the third wicket. Tamim scored 40 runs off 37 balls before getting out to spinner Vijaykanth Viyaskanth.

Azam upped the ante in the death overs and needed eight runs in the last over to reach the three-figure score. He started the over with a single before getting the strike back on the fourth ball of the over.

Thereafter, Khan deposited fast bowler Mrittunjoy Chowdhury for a four at the deep mid-wicket boundary, after which he got to his hundred with a massive six. Wahab Riaz, who was at the non-striker’s end, embraced Azam, who looked at his very best.

Azam didn’t stop there and finished the innings off with another six off Mrittunjoy. The right-handed batter stayed unbeaten on 109 runs off 58 balls with nine fours and as many as eight sixes.

Azam Khan became the second Pakistani batter to score a hundred in BPL

The 24-year-old, also the son of former cricketer Moin Khan, became the second Pakistani batter after Ahmed Shehzad to score a hundred in the BPL.

However, Azam’s knock couldn’t save his team from a defeat as Chattogram Challengers easily chased down the target of 179 in 19.2 overs losing just one wicket. Usman Khan played a magnificent knock of 103 off 58 balls with the help of 10 fours and 5 sixes. Usman was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant hundred.

Azam made his debut for Pakistan back in 2021 against England in Nottingham but was left out after only three matches. In 93 T20 matches thus far, he has scored 1863 runs at an average of 23.58 and a strike rate of 140.81 with one century and 10 half-centuries.

He has played three T20Is so far and scored 6 runs in two innings.
