Delhi Capitals have had a very underwhelming season in IPL 2023. They are currently sitting at the last position on the points table. In 12 games they have eight losses and four wins to show for their efforts. The David Warner led side has eight points to their name. Their Indian batters have not performed to the expectations of the management and the fans. They have had a forgetful season.
One big change that DC has made going into the match against Punjab Kings is bringing back Prithvi Shaw into the playing XI. Shaw, in the seven matches that the Mumbaikar has taken part in, has managed to score just 73 runs at a poor average of 12.16 and at a low strike rate of 125.86 by his standards. The right-hander has been in the news for an altercation with a celebrity recently. Shaw has also copped a lot of flak when it comes to the fitness side of things.
Prithvi Shaw had scored just 283 runs for Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League 2023
At the time of writing, the right-hander appears to have found his touch back and is batting, having scored a half-century. Even in IPL 2022, he had a lukewarm season as per the lofty standards he sets for himself. In the 10 games he played, he could score just 283 runs at an average of 28.30 and a strike rate of 152.97. He scored two half-centuries in that season. Shaw recently made it back into the Indian T20 side on the back of a strong showing in domestic cricket.
The Indian batters for DC have not performed up to their expectations this season. This includes Shaw’s Mumbai teammate Sarfaraz Khan who has not set the 2023 season on fire. Shaw had a wonderful inception into Test cricket having scored a hundred on debut in India against the West Indies. But he has been up and down and has not gotten a string of chances in International cricket. The Mumbaikar though has made big runs when it comes to domestic cricket for Mumbai.
