Abhimanyu Easwaran was disappointed on not getting a call-up for the West Indies Tests despite heavily piling runs in domestic cricket. Easwaran was named the skipper in the Duleep Trophy for East Zone in the 2023 edition. The current edition has gone back to the zonal format after a long hiatus. When he missed the bus, there was a lot of uproar as to why his name was not considered for selection.

In place of Easwaran and Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad made the cut to the Test squad against the West Indies. The left-handed batter has notched up five tons in his last 10 first-class games. The man from Bengal has an average of 47.9. When it comes to first-class cricket, Easwaran has struck 6557 runs in 87 matches; even after breaking the door down, he has been constantly overlooked by the Indian management.

When I was not selected for the West Indies Tour, It felt a little disappointing -Abhimanyu Easwaran

Meanwhile, the Bengal batter refuses to throw in the towel and is putting in the hard yards at the Duleep Trophy, which is being played in Bengaluru. Easwaran talked about the West Indies tour snub and a lot more in an interview with India Today. “I mean, it is a little disappointing, to be honest, but again, it is about getting my focus back to where I wanted to be and my game. I want to spend my energy working on my skill whenever that opportunity comes. I know that the opportunity will come soon, and I want to be best prepared for that. So my focus is on trying to improve as a cricketer and be ready when the opportunity comes.” He said.

This snub has not broken my spirit at all; I am not going to give up, that’s for sure. With a passion, this big, one-small snub will not make any difference. I have always dreamt of playing for the country, winning games for my country and winning trophies for my country. I think a couple of comments and a couple of selection calls won’t really change that. I am looking forward to what’s next, like Duleep Trophy and in the long run, my aim is to play for my country, he added.
