In significant news that has come in from the Gujarat camp, Dasun Shanaka has replaced Kane Williamson in the Gujarat setup. Kane Williamson starred in just one game against Chennai at Ahmedabad. He picked up a knee injury while he was trying to prevent a ball from going for six. Currently, the New Zealander is on crutches and will be sidelined for some time.
Shanaka has shown his credentials in the T20I format for Sri Lanka. He generally slots in the middle order for the Islanders. The Sri Lankan captain can also bowl in the middle overs if needed. Shanaka is known for launching the big hits and Gujarat have got themselves yet another finisher in the lineup. The right arm bowler will be useful in May when the pitches in India get slower.

Shanaka can bowl useful changeups with the ball and will be a threat on slow wickets. In the recent T20 series against India, he showed what he was all about. The right-hander batter slammed his first ever hundred in T20Is against India. He has been signed for his base price of 50 lakhs INR. Shanaka has not been a part of the Indian T20 League. This will be his first time in the cash-rich league.
Shanaka was in great touch with the bat recently in India as he smashed 124 runs in the T20I series at a strike rate of 187. Gujarat have solidified that middle order with the addition of Shanaka to their side. Gujarat have started this season on a bright note with two wins coming from the first two games. The Hardik Pandya-led side beat Chennai by 5 wickets in their first encounter.
Then they beat Delhi by 6 wickets. Sai Sudharsan and Vijay Shankar have done well with the bat and scored runs. The left-hander picked up a Player of the Match award for his 62 off 48 balls with four fours and two sixes. David Miller came back into the side after helping South Africa secure 50 World Cup qualification. He chipped in a vital 31 off 16 balls with two fours and two sixes.
