Sangeeta Phogat, the youngest of the renowned Phogat sisters followed in the footsteps of her sisters Geeta, Babita, Vinesh, and Ritu, to become a wrestler. She trained under the guidance of her father, Mahavir Singh Phogat, in their village of Balali, Haryana.
Sangeeta has established herself as a national medalist in the 59kg wrestling category. Though yet to secure a senior international medal, she has achieved success at age-level international championships. In 2023, she displayed her talent by winning a bronze medal at the Hungary Ranking Series wrestling event, marking her first international medal in two years. This victory came amidst protests by female wrestlers in India, including Sangeeta herself, highlighting the ongoing fight for fair treatment and justice.

A lighthearted moment featuring Phogat has gone viral. She displayed her strength by lifting cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal on her shoulders during a party for the dance show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.” Chahal’s wife, Dhanashree Verma, was a contestant, and Sangeeta, already eliminated, took the playful opportunity to twirl the cricketer before he jokingly asked to be put down.
