Cricket’s ultimate Test series, The Ashes began in Birmingham on Friday, 18 months after the previous series ended with an embarrassing loss for England in Australia, amidst optimistic expectations of sunny sunshine and a packed house and utter ambiguity over which of the two strongest teams in the world will prevail.
